If you come into the centre of London and find yourself wondering where to eat, let me give you a recommendation. Ozer in Langham Place just north of Oxford Circus. I’m always on the lookout for food stops that are a bit special and Ozer is the latest wow. Here are three reasons why I’m a bit in love with the place...
1) The food is impressively different - everything just tastes so fresh and the flavours are fabulous. I am very sick of mediocre food in the middle of London - if I am going to eat out these days I need to know that the food is going to better than anything I could make at home - all too often, it isn’t.
2) Going into Ozer is like going into a gorgeous cavern - it’s so atmospheric, and it makes a fantastic break from the pushing and shoving of the West End. .
3) Ozer is not so formal that you have to take a long time over a meal if you don’t want to, but it’s special enough to make an occasion of any meal. It’d be perfect for as a pre or post theatre meal, perfect for a light lunch and, strangely, perfect for a night out on the town.
A fast and revealing review of the food I had at Ozer...
The starter platter is not to be missed - if you go in too hungry and find yourself floundering over what to order, just go for the platter and nibble on that while you think about ordering something else.
The main course I chose was slow-cooked diced lamb and the lamb was exquisitely soft.
The Su Muhallebisi speciality dessert is out of this world - delicate flavours that defy description. The menu tried: Cubes of milk pudding with rose syrup, berries and nuts. It truly is not to be missed.
Ozer is so worth a visit. Main courses cost around £12. And Ozer is part of the Sofra group of restaurants, so if you can’t get into town, look here to find the one nearest you.
Check out our middle eastern recipes here, mind you, I’ve never managed to cook middle eastern food that tastes authentic. My Indian food is fab. My Chinese isn’t bad. But the Med has yet to be mastered. Can you make your own humus or tagine?
